SRINAGAR: The Department of Youth Services & Sports, Kashmir Tuesday organized the Inter-District U-14, U-17 Kho-Kho Tournament for Boys of Kashmir Province at High School, Sonwar, Srinagar, a statement from the organisers said.
The event is part of approved Calendar of Activities for the year 2017-18 by the department.
The tournament was inaugurated by Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, Director, Youth Services & Sports, J&K.
Joint Director, Kashmir Bashir Ahmad said that as many as 108 students of U-14 age group category from nine districts of Kashmir province and 108 students of U-17 age group coming from nine districts of Kashmir Province are participating in the tournament.
The best players, the statement added- which will be selected out of this competition will participate in the Inter-Province (State Level) Competition to be held later this year.
He informed that as many as 90,000 students have so far participated in different competitions in various sports disciplines at School, Zone, District and Province levels in Kashmir Province.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director Youth Services & Sports, Jammu and Kashmir appreciated the students for showing keen interest in sports and other physical activities. He said the department is mandated to promote sports in schools and every effort is being made in this direction.
He further said that better environment is being created to provide latest facilities in the schools. In this connection, he mentioned that synthetic turf courts in ten Higher Secondary Schools have been put in place in District Srinagar to ensure better environment, coaching and training for the students so that they can excel and win medals for the state.
District, Youth Services & Sports, Srinagar, Zonal Physical Education Officers of District Srinagar/ Baramulla and officials to conduct the tournament were present on occasion.
