Srinagar: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has paid rich tributes to late Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq and late Abdul Ghani Lone whose death anniversaries are being observed on May 21.
The Chief Minister said the contribution made by the two leaders in the socio political awakening of people would long be remembered in Jammu & Kashmir.
Mehbooba Mufti said the best tribute to these two leaders would be that the people of the State commit themselves to peaceful means for resolution of issues.
Meanwhile National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Working President Omar Abdullah and General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar also paid tributes to Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq on his 27th martyrdom anniversary and Abdul Ghani Lone on his 15th martyrdom anniversary.
Terming Shaheed Mirwaiz Maulana Farooq as a learned religious luminary and scholar, Dr Farooq Abdullah termed his assassination as a tragic incident in the contemporary history of Kashmir and said that the Late Mirwaiz was a visionary and respected son of the soil who had contributed greatly in serving the cause of Islam, education and public service in Kashmir. Dr Farooq Abdullah said the contributions of the Mirwaiz family will be remembered for a long time to come.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Sheikh Mustafa Kamal and Ali Muhammad Sagar have also paid glorious tributes to Mirwaiz Maulana Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone and said that the assassination of various Kashmiri leaders highlighted the pain and agony suffered by this nation. The NC Leaders said that moderate voices had rendered great sacrifices in Kashmir and these sacrifices are valued and respected above political and partisan lines.
