SRINAGAR: Health & Medical Education Department are contemplating to conduct a mega sports event in the valley in their bid to give boost to sports activities and channelize the energy of youth in a positive direction, a statement from governments information department said Friday.
The statement added that Minister for H&ME, Bali Bhagat chaired a meeting to chalk out a strategy for organizing the event.
Bali, according to the statement, said sports activities are mandatory for physical as well as mental fitness.
The Government will devise a strategy to hold regular annual events in future for the benefits of doctors, medical students and others across the state in association with concerned sports authorities, the statement quoted Bali as saying.
Director Health Services Kashmir Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Principal Medical College SKIMS Prof. Riyaz Ahmed Untoo, Principal GMC Srinagar Prof. Samia Rashid, Secretary Sports Council Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, Project Director J&K AIDS Control Society Dr. M.A. Rather and other concerned were present in the meeting.
During the meeting, it was decided that a Committee of Head of Departments will be constituted which will suggest further course of action vis-à-vis arrangements of funds, logistics, quantum of tournament, number of teams to participate, venues, etc for the sports event. The concerned Committee shall coordinate with other concerned agencies and decide on related issues for the smooth conduct of tournament.
