SRINAGAR: Elegant Strikers Rajouri Kadal and Shahi-Hamdan Nowpora XI managed to secure victories in their respective fixtures to progress further in Shaheed Aga Syed Mehdi Memorial Cricket Tournament played at Budgam Sports Stadium on Friday.
In the first fixture of the day, Elegant Strikers beat Paller XI by eight wickets in a tight finish. Batting first Elegant Strikers made a decent score of 156 for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs with Umar making 25.
In reply, Paller XI came close to the target but Elegant Strikers bowlers made sure they restrict them to 148 for the loss of nine wickets in the 20 overs to register a 8-run victory and make its way into next round. Umar was the most successful bowler for the Strikers, taking three wickets. He was given man of the match award.
Shahi-Hamdan Nowpora thumped Watrawani Cricket Club by 106 in the second fixture of the day. Batting first Shahi-Hamdan made a massive total of 176 for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs thanks to Kashifs belligerent 32-ball 74.
In reply, Watrawani Cricket Club didnt have any answers to Shahi-Hamdan Nowpora, shot out for a nothing 70 inside 14 overs to suffer a huge defeat.
Kashif was declared man of the match.
The tournament- an annual affair-is being organised by Al-Mehdi Foundation Budgam.
