Srinagar: Clashes broke out between protesters and government forces in Nowhatta area of Srinagar city and in Shopian town in south Kashmir today, police said.
Groups of youth indulged in sloganeering and stone- pelting on forces in Nowhatta here soon after Friday prayers ended at Jamia Masjid here, a police official said.
He said forces used force including tear smoke shells in a bid to chase away the protesters.
The clashes were going on till last reports came in, he said, adding no one has been hurt in the incident so far.
Similar violent protests took place at Singlu Chowk in Shopian district, 52 kms from here, prompting forces to use force, the official said.
Meanwhile clashes also erupted between forces and protesters in Sopore town of north Kashmirs Baramulla district after Friday prayers.
Witnesses said that clashes erupted after police used tear gas shells to stop protesters who tried to march from Jamia Masjid area to Main Chowk of the town , however forces already deployed in the Main Chowk stopped them ensuing clashes.
