Panchayat Members Will Have To Be Accountable
SRINAGAR – Reacting to the statement of non-local Jammu and Kashmir director-general of police, Ashok Prasad, in which he had dared the United Jihad Council chief, Syed Sallahudin, to come to this side of the border and issue threats, UJC Thursday said it will take less than a moment for the Hizb chief to decide shifting from one part of Kashmir to the other, if need arises.
For military reasons, the UJC chief is where he is. If the situation requires him to shift to the battlefield, he will not delay it even by a moment. The Hizb chief doesnt need challenges from Indian officers, UJC spokesman, Syed Sadaqat Husain, said in a statement, adding the statement of the DGP is laughable as he is issuing such statement under the cover of eight lakh troops in the state.
He asked the DGP to benefit from the experiences of former CRPF inspector-general, N C Asthana, who, according to a statement in August, had said the resolve of Kashmiri people could neither be broken by force nor through elections.
Meanwhile, clarifying the UJC stand on Panchayat elections, the spokesman said the members of village bodies would have to be accountable in the peoples court.
A section of the media had distorted the statement of Syed Sallahudin. He had said that Indian ministers and authorities were misusing panches and sarpanches for their cheap objectives and to hoodwink international opinion. People of Kashmir, including the pro-freedom people, were against it. So, in the larger interest of the people, they (PRs) should resign, the spokesman said.
The UJC chief had said that panches and sarpanches can die anywhere and no weapon was needed to kill them because they cannot protect themselves from the wrath of the nation with charged sentiments towards them. His statement was misrepresented, the spokesman added.
On the panchs and sarpanchs taking part in the just-concluded Legislative Council elections, the UJC spokesman said the panchayat members would have to be accountable for their anti-movement role.
Despite earnest appeals from pro-freedom leaders and militant leadership, the panchayat members took part in the polls in large numbers strengthened the Indian propaganda, wittingly or unwittingly. They will have to be accountable for such anti-movement and enemy-like acts at any point in time, he said.
Were are committed and ready to take the movement to its logical conclusion. No one will be allowed to sell out sacrifices of martyrs, he added. (KNS / KMN)
