SRINAGAR: There is finally some good news for budding cricketers of Jammu and Kashmir with the state government giving a go ahead to the maiden cricket academy in the state. The cricket academy will be stationed at Srinagars Bakhshi Stadium.
According to an official communiqué issued Friday J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who is also President of J&K Sports Council, and J&K Minister for Sports Imran Raza Ansari, approved the decision to start the academy.
The decision should come as a relief for all cricket community as majority has been calling for a cricket academy in the region over the years.
Cricket academy for states budding cricketers was long overdue. This state of the art academy will give fillip to cricketing activities and help many deserving to build career under the watch of professional trainers and coaches, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is also President of the Council said.
The cricket academy, the communiqué said, will also help in streamlining state wide cricketing activities and provide opportunity to talented cricketers across the state.
Minister for Youth Service and sports, Molvi Imran Reza Ansari, hoped that such platforms will also help in nurturing the talent at the grassroots level while building their capacity and skill sets at a young age to compete at regional and national levels.
It is hoped that the academy will attract many up and coming cricketers to showcase their talent and hone their skills, Ansari said.
According to the sources, the cricket academy will have the BCCI licensed coaches, trainers and physios.
Cricket community has hailed the decision and hoped this will be beginning of something that will take J&K cricket in the right direction.
Seasoned pacer Samiullah Beigh sounded a happy man over the development saying budding cricketer should make most of it.
This is really great news. We all need to make this a success. A leap in the right direction. Although very belated but better late than never. I hope the academy is laced with latest equipments and technologies which would help youngsters compete at the highest level. Appointment of people of repute and fame is utmost essential for running the show in the right direction, Beigh, one of the all-time greats of J&K, told Kashmir Observer.
In this day and age, cricketers need to be accustomed to latest trend in the sport and cricket academies are breeding grounds for future champions. I hope this academy will provide all ingredients for aspiring cricketers to make them complete cricketers. I am sure coaches there will make cricketers learn nuances of the game and there is focus on fitness and other things, Beigh said.
