Srinagar: Night long prayers reverberated throughout Kashmir as Shab-e-Meraj was observed with religious fervour with devout filling mosques and shrines for night-long special prayers despite cold weather conditions.
Hundreds of thousands of people, including women and children, joined the night-long prayers in mosques, shrines and Khanqahs.
The main congregation was held at Hazratbal shrine on the bank of Dal Lake, which houses a relic of holy Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh).
Thousands of people in warm cloths from different parts of the the state attend the prayers at the shrine, where ulma highlighted the importance of Shab-e-Meraj, the night when holy prophet ascended to heavens.

The devotees had glimpse of the Prophets relic after every mandatory prayer. Many among them turned ecstatic and some broke down, overcome with emotions.
Similar prayers were also organized at different shrine and holy places, including Khanqah Shah-e-Hamdan, Jenab Sahib Soura, Shahre Kalashpora, Pinjoora, Kabamarg, Aham Sharief and different Imambargahs in Kashmir and Ladakh region.
