SRINAGAR: Shortly after winning the Srinagar seat Dr Farooq Abdullah said that, this vote is for the rejection of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He said that people have taught PDP a lesson that is hand in glove with RSS and BJP. There is no justification for Mehbooba Mufti to cling to the power now. People have given answer to her and she should immediately step down, Abdullah said.
Talking to reporters at Nawai Subh headquarters here, he said that while the election had been held, let us not forget that a number of young people have died.
Nearly eight young people laid their lives and many were injured, he said.
Farooq, who on the eve of polls, defended youth agitating in Kashmir and stated that they were fighting for nation, said eight people were martyred on poll day in central Kashmir on Sunday.
Several others were in hospitals and jails, he said adding he had never seen such an election, where people were frightened.
He appealed president of India to dismiss the state government as it has failed to deliver.
I also demand that election for bypolls to Anantnag Lok Sabha seat should be held under the Governor’s rule. If it is not done then it is unlikely that people would get justice, the NC president said.
The bypolls for Anantnag Lok Sabha seat has been deferred and would now be held on May 25.
79 year old Farooq Abdullah said he would seek a dialogue between India and Pakistan to try to honesty resolve the Kashmir Issue.
People of Kashmir cannot be expected to suffer endlessly, he said adding: I will also ask New Delhi to talk to all stakeholders in Kashmir including the Hurriyat leadership, he said adding Hurriyat is a stakeholder to the issue.
There is no alternative to talks. You have to talk in an effort to find a solution.
On the low turnout, he said that the low voting does not make any difference.
We have seen elections before also where hardly any percentage was there. It does not make any difference. Democracy has been there. What do you say to the people who have voted, he said
Responding to a question, Farooq Abdullah said that to resign from Srinagar seat is not up to him. All the decisions are taken in the Working Committee. Future strategy will be chalked in the Working Committee meeting that will be held soon, he said.
