Budgam: Authorities Friday foiled joint Shia-Sunni Friday congregational prayers at Central Kashmir town of Budgam and placed senior separatist leader Aga Syed Hasan Al-Musavi under house arrest.
Joint prayers were to be held at Bihisht-e-Zahra grounds. However police and CRPF had sealed it off since early hours Friday.
Condemning the arrests and imposition of restrictions on the movement of people, Anjuman Shari-e-Shiayan, which had called for Budgam March and joint prayers said that such oppressive tactics cant break the resolve of the people.
Depriving people from offering tributes to slain youth killed by India during election is condemnable. This shows the imperialistic mindset of authorities, the statement said.
Stopping religious and separatist leader from leading Friday prayers amount to religious interference, the spokesperson said.
The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) also condemned the restrictions on the condolence programme called in memory of Budgam martyrs in the district and termed it as frustration of the government.
DFP general secretary Moulana Abdullah Tari said, To disallow a purely religious programme is extremely coward act on part of authorities.
The leaders had decided to offer the Friday prayers at Behisht-i-Zahra and express condolence with the families of Budgam martyrs.
It seems authorities are deliberately not willing to listen to the people and only know to impose curfew-like restrictions. They have not even learned lessons from the election boycott, he said.
He strongly condemned the arrest of Shia leader Agha Syed Hassan and other resistance leaders and activists saying authorities are resorting to same suppressive tactics without understanding the revolution the Kashmiri youth have brought and the impact it will have on the states political scenario.
Nadvi addresses gathering at Imambargah
Despite restrictions several Hurriyat leaders, including Devinder Singh Bhel, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi, Nisar Hussain Rather & Mudasir Nadvi managed to reach Budgam and led a protest rally. Mudasir Nadvi addressed a gathering at Imambargah Budgam and paid rich tributes to the slain youth.
Leaders addressed protestors amidst strong protest against unjustified restrictions. People raised slogans in favor of Islam and freedom, condemned state sponsored terrorism and unwarranted restrictions.
