Srinagar: Two days after a video clip showing a group of Kashmiri youth heckling CRPF personnel went viral, another video surfaced Friday, this time showing a man tied to a moving Army vehicle ostensibly as a human shield from stone-pelting protesters. As outrage mounted, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti sought a report from police, and the Army said it was examining the video.
Omar Abdullah, Former Chief Minister and MLA Beerwah, took to the micro blogging site twitter to condemn the move.
Omar posted the picture and the video of the man and wrote:
This young man was TIED to the front of an army jeep to make sure no stones were thrown at the jeep? This is just so shocking!!!! #Kashmir.
“I understand the outrage the CRPF video generated. I’m also outraged that the video of the youth on the jeep won’t generate the same anger,” said omar.
“Let’s see channels going ballistic and having discussions with outraged panelists now. Probably not since ‘Kashmir is ours’ hell with Kashmiris,” the former chief minister said.

Omar demanded an inquiry into the incident. “A warning can be heard saying stone pelters will meet this fate. This requires an urgent inquiry and follow up NOW!” he added.
A student wrote while sharing the video on his facebook wall: Dragged as a human shield?! No human rights-no outrage here? he questioned.

Shrimoyee, a lawyer and a Human Rights activist, while sharing one of the video posts on Friday questioned the “selective outrage” on social media, hinting at the tweets of Gambhir. “Boy kicks CRPF Jawan: outrage, genocidal threats, investigations, punishment. CRPF Jawan shoots boy in head *Crickets*,” she tweeted.
Veteran journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, condemning the tying up of a youth to an army jeep, asked: “Will any cricket/film hero condemn this like we do when an army man is pushed and heckled?”
This is not the first time that Indian Army uses civilians as human shields in Kashmir, it has been happening from the past many years during the anti-militant operations and there are many such cases where people have lost their lives but today it came to forefront, alleged Khurram Pervez of Coalition of Civil Societies, Kashmir.
Parvez said, this also happened at Chati Banday area of North Kashmirs Bandipore in 2003 where Army used four civilians as human shield in anti-militancy operation and all the four were killed later.
Taking a dig at Omar Abdullah, Parvez said, during his tenure as CM and chief of Unified Command such incidents also took place.
