SRINAGAR: Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday dispatched a high-level team to Zadibal to pacify warring groups in the tension-ridden area.
Comprised of Muhammad Shafi Khan, Ghulam Qadir Beig, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, and Muhammad Yousuf Bhat, the team toured the area to promote traditional Shia-Sunni unity and review the situation, a Hurriyat (M) statement said.
The delegation met both sides separately, stressing on the need for restraint and maintaining peace to thwart the unholy designs of miscreants, it said.
The team told both sides that it was in view of the recent unpleasant incidents that the Mirwaiz had convened a meeting of the Shia-Sunni Coordination Committee at the residence of Agha Syed Hassan in Budgam on Sunday.
Prominent members of both sides have been invited to discuss the present situation and frame an effective strategy to counter it, the team said.
Meanwhile, the Hurriyat (M) expressed satisfaction at the European Parliament placing the Kashmir issue on priority.
This is the result of the immense sacrifices of the Kashmiri people, and the positive international diplomatic efforts and effective representation by the young and bold Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, a spokesman said.
It is a matter of pride for the Kashmiri people, he said.
