JAMMU: As many as 6884 cases were disposed off and Rs.3.91 crore was awarded in MACT cases while as Rs. 15.28 crore was settled in Bank recovery suits during the National Lok Adalat held across Jammu and Kashmir, a statement issued by J&K State Legal Services Authority said here today.
According to the official statement issued by Presiding Officer, J&K Special Tribunal Jammu, R.K.Wattal, said that J&K State Legal Services Authority organized wide range of National Lok Adalat across the State at J&K High Court, District and Tehsil level.
A total of 75 cases of different nature were taken up, of which, 42 cases were settled on the spot. An amount of Rs 38, 34000 was realized in MACT cases while a total of Rs 2, 10000 were realized in various bank cases.
A National Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Principal District & Sessions Judge Srinagar, Rasheed Ali Dar here today in Srinagar in which 445 cases were settled amicably. A total of 825 cases were taken up for hearing during which Rs. 70,000 was recovered as fine in various challans and Rs. 55.40 lakh was awarded as compensation in various MACT cases. Besides, Rs. 98,000 was recovered as settlement amount in various bank matters. Similarly National Lok Adalats were held in various districts of Kashmir Division, including Anantnag, Bandipora, Kulgam and Shopian, during which many cases of varying natures were settled amicably.
In Anantnag, a total of 304 cases were taken up for hearing out of which 220 cases were settled and a total settlement amount of Rs. 29.33 lakh was awarded.
In Bandipora, a total of 1349 cases were taken up for hearing out of which 1055 cases were settled and a total amount of Rs. 1.73 crore was awarded.
In Kulgam, 93 out of 125 cases taken up for hearing were settled and an amount of Rs. 7.95 lakh was awarded as compensation in MACT cases.
In Shopian, a total of 162 cases were taken up for hearing out of which 80 cases were settled and a total settlement amount of Rs 32.57 lakh was awarded.
