Srinagar: Ridiculing the government over claims by one of its senior ministers that 2016 unrest was responsible for the delay in dredging Jhelum in the valley, former chief minister Omar Abdullah asked how it stopped the current regime from de-silting the waterbody, but not from spending crores of rupees in a handful of VVIP constituencies.
So 2016 stopped the dredging but didn’t stop them spending crores & crores of (rupees) in a handful of VVIP constituencies. How convenient, Mr Abdullah, who is the working president of main opposition in the state, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Omar was reacting to a statement made by Minister of State (MoS) Flood Control Syed Farooq Andrabi that dredging was delayed in Jhelum and flood-spill channel due to 2016 unrest that left over 100 people dead.
