SRINAGAR: A dozen youths were detained by the J&K police after a video showing them playing cricket in green Pakistani national team uniform went viral, an official confirmed on Thursday.
“These youths have been detained for counseling,” a police officer said.
The twelve were detained from Ganderbal district late on Wednesday evening. The video showed them wearing Pakistan cricket team uniform and singing the country’s national anthem.
Reports also said a team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was reaching here on Thursday to probe the incident.
Initial investigation into the incident has shown that the youth had been videographed on April 2 during a local cricket match between two teams in Ganderbal.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the state on the same day to inaugurate the Nashri-Chenani tunnel.

Detention of cricketers frustration of state
Terming the detention of youth arrested for singing Pakistan national anthem during a cricket match and handing over them to NIA, frustration of state authorities,Hurriyat Conference Thursday said that it is not a serious issue and authorities are unnecessarily giving it hype.
They are acting as puppets, said Hurriyat adding, we are worst victims of state and Hindutva terrorism.
Spokesman said that people here love Pakistan and this sentiment is there since the Pakistan came into existence, Hurriyat said adding, it is an instinct and sentiment that thrives in our soul.
Hurriyat spokesman said that for we people it is not crime and asked authorities that you cant convict everyone and how many you will convict for illustrating their sentiments for Pakistan.
Demanding immediate release of detained youth, and strongly criticizing authorities for handing over youth to NIA, spokesman said that it is ridiculous and said these youths are innocent and didnt committed any offence.
Spokesman alleged that India was a Hindu Rashtra and Muslim majority population of Kashmir was facing a war declared by the state.
