SRINAGAR: Ahead of parliamentary polls in Srinagar constituency, government has handed over a dozen of schools to the security forces in Kashmir valley.
Reports said that more educational institutions were taken over by the forces in various parts of the city. The occupation of schools by the security forces spontaneously shuts the classes in these schools.
In Srinagar, Government Higher Secondary Schools in Chanpora, Hazratbal, Sonwar, Soura and Zadibal were taken over by CRPF troops.
Earlier on Monday two schools Government Middle School Gagribal and Government High School Drogjan were taken over by security forces for their accommodation. National School in Karan Nagar as well as other four government schools functioning in the building is closed as they were occupied by the CRPF.
Reports said that two companies of CRPF are accommodated in GHS Drogjan and one company is accommodated in Gagribal School while Middle School Gagribal where troops have thrown out furniture of the building and have set up kitchen. They have occupied all the rooms.
Pertinently the polls scheduled on April 9 and 12 have taken heavy tool on the academics of the students. Reports said that on Tuesday more than half a dozen government schools were taken over by forces in Srinagar district, forcing the school authorities to suspend the class work in the schools.
Ironically the schools were taken up by the security forces deployed for polls at the time when Education Minister Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari talks about no poll duty for teachers to avoid the loss in academics.
Sources said that all the schools were occupied by the forces without any prior information to the head of the institutions. On the other hand this move has kept students and teachers under confusion whether to go school or not.
Eyewitness said the security forces have kept all the furniture of schools outside amid rains which have damaged the school property of huge sums.
Sources said that the government may announce the holiday for the students for these days. Sources also said that the Director General of Police (DGP) S.P Vaid have opposed the occupation of schools and have asked DIG to change the accommodation of the security forces deployed on poll duty. (PTK)
