Anantnag: The Chairman of Ummat e Islami Jammu Kashmir and Mirwaiz of South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir, on Wednesday said that the gencies were creating sectarian divide in Kashmir by saying that promoting Sufism will change the political situation of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference at his residence here, Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir said that irrespective of their religious ideologies Kashmiris believe that Kashmir issue is a political problem and needs to be solved politically. Answering a question, he said that for Kashmiris no mainstream party is sacred, the BJP has done a lot against Muslims and Kashmiris but Congress does not lag behind either.
Our local mainstream parties both in Indian parliament and here have joined the BJP, who demolished Babri Masjid or when Afzal Guru was hanged National Conference was ruling with Congress. I don’t think elections have any impact on Kashmir issue in any way but I appeal people to follow Hurriyat call and boycott, he said.
Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir accused the agencies and politicians of continuing with their rant of promoting Sufism which is only to divide people of Kashmir, who are all supporting the freedom struggle despite what religious ideologies they follow. Highlighting the role of sufis scholars and leaders, Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir said that some of the biggest Sufis have fought against occupiers, like Meerak Shah sahib of Shalimar who led a people’s movement earlier.
In late 1920s, when Dogras stopped construction of a mosque in Sherbagh, my great-grandfather Mirwaiz Qazi Qamaruddin led an agitation against Dogra rule and in reaction 17 people were killed. Kashmiris have never encouraged any divide among themselves along sectarian lines. Kashmiris through Mirwaiz Qazi Nissar Ahmed have set an example when in Ahlihadith Eidgah a Hanafi gave khutba and a Shia led the prayers, he said.
