PDP Robbed Youth of Peace and Dignity: Omar

BEERWAH: National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah on Saturday lashed out at PDP for blaming people for the current volatile situation in the Valley instead of feeling remorse over the reign of terror and repression it unleashed in Kashmir.

He wondered at the “brazen attempts” of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti underplaying the bloodshed and atrocities being committed upon the people, saying the 2016 killings, blindings and maiming of youth is unparallel in the history of Kashmir.

“What Kashmiris underwent in 2016 or are facing now is beyond comprehension and expression,” the Working President said in an election campaign for the party president Dr Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, an NC statement said. “PDP had pushed Kashmiri youth to the wall and robbing them of an opportunity to live with peace and dignity.”

Omar Abdullah said the anti-people policies of the PDP-BJP dispensation have brought Kashmir at the volatile cross roads of history where nothing is visible except uncertainty, fear and harassment. “The scenario across the Valley is so grim that the people are apprehensive about their safety with economic activity and development coming to grinding halt,” he said, adding that the spree of arrests has further vitiated the atmosphere. He said the current insensitive dispensation has exposed people to administrative inertia, as a result of which they were suffering on all fronts.

He asked the PDP as to what had happened to lofty promises of jobs for youth, repealing Armed Forces Special Powers Act, ensuring 24X7 drinking water and power supply and above all resolving political problem of Kashmir. He described PDP as dream merchants.

“Yes, if PDP can take credit of anything, it is strengthened of the unbridled forces with additional 5,000 pellet guns and seven lakh pellets to target Kashmiri youth,” he added.

The National Conference Working President said, “the promises made by the PDP during 2014 Lok Sabha and assembly elections, as also while forming the government in coalition with BJP have proved hoax. Those promises were just to hoodwink public opinion, as the PDP was never sincere to what it committed to the people.”

He cautioned the electors against machinations of the PDP-BJP duo saying they can go to any extent in remaining in the power.

Referring to the upcoming by-polls, Omar Abdullah described “these as an opportunity for oppressed people to punish the PDP for its betrayal and joining hands with communal forces”. “National Conference has aligned with the Congress to foil the nefarious game-plan of communal forces which have made inroads in Kashmir due to courtesy of the PDP.”

Omar Abdullah said, “befitting reply to PDP’s betrayal would be to vote and support the NC and Congress candidates from Srinagar and Anantnag parliamentary constituencies.”

PDP Surrenders Valleys’ MLC Seat To RSS Man: Karra

Questioning the motive behind surrendering a safe MLC seat to BJP backed RSS man in Kashmir Province by PDP, senior Congress leader Tariq Hameed Karra on Saturday said that PDP has now “officially opened gateway” to Kashmir for RSS.

“The trend is extremely dangerous and is bound to put the majority community in the ‘land of saints’ at danger,” founding member of PDP who switched to Congress in 2016 said.

In a statement to press, Karra said, “despite huge resentment against their every decision, PDP leadership continues to live in oblivion and facilitate RSS in gaining foothold in the Muslim Majority areas of the state thus bartering the lives, peace and even religious belief of people for Power.” “Most of them being themselves Muslims, the PDP leadership should have been able to read the writings on the wall by taking a cue from recent incidents of UP and should have given preference to the interests of people over the chair, but unfortunately they did exactly opposite to that and instead of stopping the march of the saffron brigade to Muslim majority areas of the state, the PDP chose to be the prime facilitators for RSS to reach these areas through constitutional institutions which was impossible till 2015 when PDP got into alliance with BJP.

He said, “presence of RSS in Muslim majority areas of the state is bound to disturb the communal peace and harmony in these area.”

While condemning the PDP for surrendering safe legislative Council seat to a hardcore RSS man, G L Raina alias Ajay Bharti, who is a known Pracharak of RSS, Karra said, “the decision would provide official cover to these fascist forces to reach, otherwise out of bound areas for them and penetrate into the Muslim society.”

While reminding PDP leadership of their deceitful 2014 poll campaigning days during which they would loudly appeal people to vote their party in order to keep BJP out of power corridors, Karra said, “history will never forgive them for the worst kind of treachery and deceit they played with the mandate, for which people will surely teach them a lesson.”

The former MP said that he has “huge respect” for all religions but being a proud Muslim and a proud Kashmiri first, “he will never hesitate for raising voice against the fascist forces which have put ‘my religion and my community’ to danger with collaboration and facilitation of PDP”. “Communal harmony of the state which was under threat in the entire Muslim belt of the state in the hands of such collaborators and facilitators, are themselves Muslims.”

According to Karra, “Raina’s selection from Kashmir is just a beginning of a larger sinister plan of bringing RSS army to Muslim areas of the state so that their voice, be it mainstream or otherwise, be muzzled and suppressed.”
