SRINAGAR (ONS) – Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Agha Syed Hassan on Wednesday reacted strongly against the latest attack on the religious sentiments of Muslims, saying that this was a traditional tactic of anti-Islam forces.
The leaders said that public anger and outrage over such episodes was inevitable, and appealed for restraint and unity.
The separatist leaders issued individual statements today after parts of Kashmir were rocked with severe protests over purportedly US-made footwear bearing the holy names of revered Islamic personalities.
Such episodes are not accidental, Geelani said. Anti-Islam forces undertake such dastardly deeds deliberately.
Such acts expose the reality of so-called civilised people and show how low they can stoop to vent their hatred and rancour against Muslims, he said.
While protesting against such deeds, we must convey that we are far more civilized than the perpetrators, and know how to reply to their foul acts with dignity, he said.
A good way to answer anti-Islam forces is to convey the true spirit of our faith to the world, as this is the only way to make the world more peaceful and beautiful, he said.
In his turn, the Mirwaiz condemned the insult, describing it as an un-Islamic and immoral act.
It is an undeniable fact that anti-Islam forces have always been engaged in a sustained campaign to inflict hurt and injury on the religious sentiments of Muslims, the Mirwaiz said.
Muslims have always had to suffer the slings and arrows of hate and spite from the enemies of Islam who want to snuff the religion out for good, he said.
Public anger against this outrage is justified, but under no circumstances should we let go of the virtues of restraint, unity and sagacity. That is the way to defeat the designs of anti-Islam forces, he said.
Agha Syed Hassan of the Anjuman-e-Sharaie Shiayan said that the insult was heart-rending for all Muslims irrespective of sect or school.
The episode is a deliberate attempt to undo the exemplary climate of Muslim unity in the state, he said.
Being unique in its virulence, the deed is the handiwork of a global network out to perpetrate tragedies in the Muslim world by attacking what it holds sacred, he said.
Asking the people of the state to beware of Zionists and crusaders mischief, the Agha cautioned against reactions that would impair Muslim unity.
It is natural to resent such acts, but we must not adopt a mode of protest that serves to accomplish the designs of the enemies of Muslim unity, he said.
The history of Shia-Sunni unity created jointly by religious and pro-freedom organisations over the days of Muharram is no good news for the enemies of Islam, he said.
