SRINAGAR: Senior separatist leader, Shabir Ahmad Shah Tuesday reiterated his association with Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani, however, he excused himself from taking any role ‘which he cannot fulfil’.
Speaking to the Kashmir Observer after media reports created stir that he has stepped down as Secretary General of Geelani led Hurriyat Conference, Shabir Shah said, I have resigned because of continuous police detention.
I am unable to work, he said of restrictions put on him by police. I have not separated from Geelani sahab but will work shoulder to shoulder with him till my last breath.
Shah revealed that he had submitted his formal resignation on 20 February this year to Hurriyat Conference chief. I was not able to do justice with the post of Secretary General due to continuous house detention.
After becoming Secretary General of Hurriyat Conference, I was either put under house detention or detained in different jails of Kashmir, he said.
I wrote to Geelani sahib that in order to tight our grips at the ground level, we need to appoint a person who is free and can do justice with the post of Secretary General, he said.
Strongly refuting claims of internal revolt in the Hurriyat Conference he said, there is no issue like that in the conglomerate. Every Rukun (constituent) is working for the unity of the conglomerate and it will continue till we achieve our genuine rights.
It may be recalled, Shabir Shah left the Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and he constituted separate group and named it Hurriyat Conference JK. However, after months of deliberations, Shabir Shah drove to Hyderpora and formally joined Geelani in 2015 September.
Shah had joined Hurriyat Conference (M) in January 2008.
