Srinagar: Society of Dental Surgeons J&K (SDSJK) has castigated the Government for showing step-motherly treatment towards the upgradation of dental fraternity and promotion of quality Oral health care to the patients.
In this background Dental Surgeons across state wore black bands as a mark of protest against the step-motherly treatment shown by Government towards oral health services prevailing in the state.
Dr Imtiyaz Maqbool President SDSJK said that the state of Oral Health Services prevalent in state is under shambles which has led to various health hazards especially blood borne diseases on which Government seems to be in deep sleep. It is astonishing that the Government in recent past opened various New Type Primary Health Centres vide Govt. order no 585-HME of 214 dated 17/10/2014 with a creation of equal number of Medical Officers but unfortunately no Dental Surgeon post has been created in these health centres leading to deep oral health crisis.
Moreover the already working Dental Surgeons in various hospitals are bearing the brunt of workload as population and oral diseases has increased manifolds. As there has been immense upgradation of other sections of hospital but it is quite deplorable that the Dental Sections still lingers in primitive way of working, Dr Imtiyaz said in a statement.
Dr Zahid Safdar , Joint Secretary SDSJK, said that it is condemnable that only 500 plus sanctioned posts of dental surgeons are there for a huge 1.25 crore population of J&K which simply flaws the WHO Oral Health Guidelines.
As per the official survey held by a national organisation, every second Indian suffers from an oral problem which speaks of poor Oral Health in the community. Moreover, there has been rise in Oral Cancers and also spread of blood borne diseases due to illegal dental clinics and below par Dental Sections across state. Till the Govt. is not serious in upgradation of Dentistry across state it is evident that there will be steep rise in life threatening diseases and poor oral health services, Dr Zahid.
He said that more than 2000 unemployed dental surgeons in the state and the number is increasing every year and on the contrary there is dire need of upgrading the dental sections by recruiting the desired human resource.
SDSJK stressed on the Government and especially Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat and MoS Health& Medical Education Asiya Naqash to kindly intervene in the matter for immediate creation of dental surgeon posts in bulk so that quality oral health is being provided to the needy patients.
SDSJK appealed Government for dissolution of State Dental Council followed by elections as per the guidelines, caderization cum Promotional Avenues to in service Dental Surgeons Pay disparity of NRHM Dental Surgeons, Change of Nomenclature of Dental Surgeon to Medical Officer (Dental)/Dental Officer),Upgrade the awareness among various stakeholders in the Govt. and Society to highlight the essence of Oral Health Care among masses so that the importance of neglected field be taken seriously by the authorities.
