BANDIPORA: A family from North Kashmirs Hajin area of Bandipora district Monday alleged that police arrested their physically challenged son on charges of stone-pelting and they are being denied a meeting with him in the police station.
Police, according to the family members, arrested Muhammad Afzal Parray, son of Muhammad Maqbool, a resident of Mir Mohalla Hajin, during a naka at Hajin when he was on way to Bones and Joint Hospital Srinagar. My son had suffered serious bullet injuries in 2008 agitation in his leg and since then he is unable to walk properly. He was bed ridden for two years. We dont understand how he can pelt stones when he can hardly walk, the mother of the detained youth told CNS.
She said that Afzal has been lodged at Police Station Hajin and police are not allowing the family to meet him. He is innocent and not involved in any stone-pelting incident. Next month he is supposed to undergo another surgery, she said.
When contacted, a police official said that the said youth is involved in many stone-pelting incidents. A number of cases stand registered against him, he said.
Police Patrol Stoned in Pulwama
Scores of youth on Monday attacked a patrolling party of police at Kangan and Murran villages of restive Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
According to witnesses, a police party comprising of SDPO Pulwama and two other SHOs were patrolling Murran village of Pulwama when they came under heavy stone-pelting from youths while similar incident occurred at Kangan village.
Witnesses said, police lobbed few teargas shells to disperse the angry youths and the situation in these two villages remained tense for several hours.
Sources said, ahead of by-polls on Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency on April 12, when Pulwama will also go for polling, police have decided to round up dozens of youth previously involved in stone pelting. (GNS)
Bandipora Court Upholds Masarats Release Order
Sessions Court Bandipora on Monday dismissed the stay order on the bail order of incarcerated Hurriyat Conference (G) Secretary General (III) and Muslim League, chairperson, Masarat Alam Bhat.
CJM Bandipora had issued bail to the jailed leader last month however state had challenged the same through a petition in the Session Court.
Legal Secretary to Muslim League, Shah Riyaz, said that the said court not only dismissed the petition but also retained the bail order issued by the CJM.
Advocate Shoaib pleaded for Masarat in Session Court Bandipora.
Masarat in undergoing detention in district Court Baramulla in a case registered at police station Sumbal under FIR No 53/2015.
The rejection of state petition has paved way of Masarats release.
Masarat is continuously behind bars since 2010 barring only forty days after he strongly spearheaded the then peoples uprising.
