Budgam: J&K RTI Foundation and In-Minds Society Monday organized a daylong event at Municipal Committee Magam to celebrate 8th year of J&K RTI Act 2009 as RTI Day and create awareness among masses about various provisions of the act. The event was celebrated in presence of Tehsildar Magam, Naib-Tehsildar Magam, Executive Officer and employees of Municipal Committee Magam, SHO Magam, Principal Higher Secondary Magam, Media friends, students and other senior citizens.
Speaking on the occasion, Tehsildar Magam, Syed Altaf Hussain Musvi said that as human beings we need to perform our responsibilities and all PIOs should provide information to the applicant on time for its effective implementation. The Tehsildar was appreciated by the activists when he said that he provides Xerox charges of copying information from his pocket and keeps most of the information available in electronic format.
Naib-Tehsildar Magam, Abdul Majeed, on the occasion clarified people that Right to Information Act is the key to transparency but it cannot solve ones grievances all the time.
Chairman J&K RTI Foundation, Er. Irfan Banka, besides presenting a report on Eight years of J&K RTI Act 2009 in the state called upon the government to effectively implement the proactive disclosures policy across all government offices in the state. He also urged for restoration of RTI Rules of 2010, updating of J&K SIC Website, uploading details of all PIOs and FAAs on JKSIC website, Implementation of Section 4 and 23 of the J&K RTI Act which are the backbone of RTI Law in the state.
Chief Spokesperson J&K RTI Foundation, Sheikh Maqbool assured the students and other participants of full support related to any issue regarding J&K RTI Act and announced official launch of people friendly websites www.jkrtifoundation.com and www.budgamunheard.com which would act as source of information and a platform through which grievances could be resolved.
Meanwhile, as part of its celebration, at many offices J&K RTI Foundation Members have been conducting physical inspection of information under Section 2i of J&K RTI Act 2009.
With the experiences shared by Sheikh Sartaj, Nasir Hussain Sofi, Kousar Sofi, Gulzar Ahmad and other speakers, the participants were impressed and on-spot filing of application was done. Prominent RTI Activists Anjan Bilal, Sajad RTI, Ishfaq Reshi, Riyaz Ahmad, Kousar Sofi, Arif Ismael and other activists associated with J&K RTI Foundation also shared their experiences on the occasion
