SRINAGAR: Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), Khurshid Ahmed Ganai today convened an interactive meeting with the members of Jammu Kashmir RTI Movement to review the implementation of RTI Act in the State.
During the meeting various aspects of RTI Act besides rules under RTI Act that needs to be amended for filing applications and appeals were also discussed in threadbare.
On the occasion, the Chief Information Commissioner called for effective implementation of RTI Act which is necessary in ensuring good governance, transparency and accountability in State affairs. He said measures would be taken to make RTI Act more public friendly.
He said necessary actions under law would be recommended against those officials who show dereliction while dealing RTI applications. He also said that RTI awareness camps would be conducted to aware the general public as well as government officials so that information seekers and information providers are acquainted with all aspects of RTI Act.
The meeting stressed the need of timely upload and updations of all Government Departments to facilitate information seekers.
Earlier, the members of RTI Act Movement welcomed the Mr. Ganai and expressed their happiness over his appointment as CIC. They hoped that his appointment would help in efficient and effective implementation of Right to Information Act in the State.
