JKEEU Goes On 48-hour Long Strike 

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Electric Employees Union on Thursday said that the committee formed by the authorities to investigate the death of a labourer by electrocution at Budshah Chowk is ‘mere an eyewash’.

Addressing a presser at Power Development Department (PDD) head office in Srinagar, the president of the association, Abdul Salam Rajpuri said, “The committee formulated by the authorities to investigate the electrocution of a labour at Budshah Chowk is a mere eyewash as the committee has held a low level official responsible over the negligence.”
 

He said that the low level official may be responsible but the higher officials in the department can not escape the responsibility.
 

Rajpuri told reporters, “If the incident would have taken place anywhere other than city centre the authorities would have ignored it.”
 

He said that the other labourer who was injured in the Budshah Chowk is in critical condition in the hospital. “Despite such incidents, the government has failed to order any safety measures for the employees,” he said.

Notably, the association has begun the 48-hour long strike against the government for failing to fulfill their demands.
“We are on the strike against the non-fulfillment of demands including the safety measures for the employees and the deteriorating situation of the department,” he said, adding that the government must fulfill the demands of employees at earliest.
He said that in case the government failed to look into the matter in the 48 hours, they will take extreme step for which the government will be held responsible.

Meanwhile, Rajpuri said that government should also formulate a committee to investigate the investment of funds in the department. “The utilization of the funds in the department must be investigated. The government must formulate a committee to investigate the matter,” he said.
