Srinagar: At a time when both State and Government of India wants to befriend farmers and to increase the agricultural productivity, several beneficial schemes have been introduced, the farmers residing in Sumbal tehsil of North Kashmirs Bandipora district allege that the Agriculture office in the said Block have been extending help to only blue-eyed farmers who are either affiliated to any political party or have some connections with political bosses.
A group of people from Sumbal Tehsil told Reporters here in Press Enclave Srinagar that majority of the farmers are being ignored by the Agriculature officials and whatever assistance they should get under different schemes are being provided to influential farmers only.
The Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer and Agriculture Extension Officer Block Sumbal according to agitated farmers have provided tube-wells, fertilizers and other farming related equipments to blue-eyed persons. A tube-well that should have been installed at public place for the benefit of larger section of society has been given to an influential individual. These officials have resorted to loot and are busy in appeasing a particular group of people, the protesting farmers told news agency CNS. They claimed that even seeds meant for free distribution are being sold in black.
We have ample proof to prove that influential people have been provided with tube wells and other machinery. It is a scam and anti-graft bodies should take cognizance of it, they said.
How come the initiatives taken by the Central Government for the welfare of farmers will show positive results, when corrupt officials rule the roost, they questioned and appealed to Minister for Agriculture to take stock of present status of farmers centric schemes.
Both Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer and Agriculture Extension Officer Block Sumbal refuted the allegations saying that department doesnt resort to any disparity and always try to provide benefits to every farmer under different schemes. (CNS)
