Education is about far more than the marks received by students in the examination. Its about understanding right from wrong and having the knowledge how to stay afloat in todays society. It helps to develop the perspective on the world around and pushes a student to think both creatively and conceptually about many different subjects. Without education, sensory information would simply be lost. Education allows us to process the information we receive on a daily basis and make conclusions and inferences based on what we already know. All this mainly depends upon a teacher. Therefore teachers need to be at the heart of education for young people, ensuring that they receive the guidance and motivation needed to lead them towards a successful career. Yet the needs of young people, particularly those from poorer backgrounds, aren’t being served by current learning in schools.
The role of teachers has often been point of discussion. Teachers should be at the heart of a long-term approach to enhancing education as it is the primary duty of them.
We know that young people often turn to their teachers for advice and the teachers are the only hope for them. No doubt the system of education is not only teacher himself. There is curriculum, school infrastructure, teaching leaning material, administration etc. but the active element in the whole system is teacher and teacher is the pivot around which the department rotates. And if there is any difficulty in the system, the teacher must have ability to compensate the problem at gross root level using his skill. Therefore the selection of the teacher in the department must have tough rules and best incentives. Unfortunately employment in any department in our society is the means of the vote bank for the politicians. Same is the case with the department of education. Every ruling party in their period mends the laws in such a way so that they could get more and more votes.
Fortunately , the present coalition Goverment took a positive step towards improvement of system of education in the valley, as the government have announced promotion to next cadre will be given only after qualifying the examination. Therefore DSEK issued by the department of education vide no: 66 dated 16/02/2017 regarding the screening test of all the Teachers, Masters, Headmasters, Lecturers, and Principals having the degrees in B.Ed/M.Ed through the distance mode before any promotion to next cadre.
But the teaching community is on their toes and trying their level best, using all possible means to get the order withdrawn. Is the order unjust as per the teaching community or the teaching community is inefficient and incompetent. If the order is genuine it is the duty of all those persons, agencies or civil society to support the Government to implement this order which wants a developed society in every aspect. So the first small step towards improvement of the education system in state could be achieved. In addition teaching community should also support the Government as this order will provide better opportunities for the hardworking and efficient teachers. Latter on every teacher would motivate himself to achieve the best possible knowledge in connection with teaching learning process.
