SRINAGAR: Two years have passed since the J&K Government announced fast track policy to fill up the vacancies in departments in Jammu and Kashmir, there has been no implementation of such decisions on the ground.
This could be gauged from the fact that around 25,000 posts are lying vacant in various government department and majority have not been filled up for years despite J&K being one of the most unemployed states in north India.
As per the government statistics, the J&K has 21,717 vacancies, including 18,300 non-gazetted and 3,417 gazetted posts, in various government departments.
The total number of vacancies in School and Higher Education departments has gone up to 7,184: In Higher Education department, as many as 1,288 posts are lying vacant, including 1,162 gazetted and 126 non-gazetted posts. In School Education department 5,896 posts including 1,059 gazetted and 4,837 non-gazetted ones are lying vacant.
The Health and Medical Education department is the next: it has 3,225 posts lying vacant, including 400 gazetted and 2,825 non- gazetted positions.
The Forest Department has 1,851 vacant posts including 1,775 non-gazetted and 76 gazetted vacancies.
Similarly, in Finance Department, 1,685 vacant posts have not yet been filled up by the government.
In Revenue Department, 1,720 posts have been lying vacant for many years, while the departments including Social Welfare, Public Works and Public Health Engineering have 7, 58, 719 and 9,62, vacant posts, respectively.
As per the official figures, the Agriculture Department has 325 vacant posts, including 278 non-gazetted and 47 gazetted.
Cooperative, General Administration and Industries and Commerce departments have 3, 86, 427 and 443 vacant posts, respectively.
In Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports, Tourism & Rural Development, and Power Development have 347, 228, 482, and 169 posts lying vacant, respectively.
The Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Estates, Election and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Departments have 241, 27, 40, and 25 vacant posts, respectively.
In ARI and Training, Horticulture, Housing and Urban Development, Home and Information departments have 31, 44, 68, 78, and 86 vacant posts, respectively.
The departments of Law, Planning and Development, and Transport have 24, 16, and 20 vacant posts.
In fact, the two chief recruiting agenciesPSC and SSBhave 23 and 34 positions, respectively, lying vacant.
An official document suggested that the PSC has made 2,465 selections in the past three years, while SSB has made 20,566 selections.
Recently the Annual Employment and Unemployment Survey Report, released by the Labour Bureau under Union Ministry of Labor and Employment, has revealed that J&K was having the highest unemployment rate (10 per cent) in entire north India.
At present, the number of unemployed youths registered in various district employments and counseling centres is 6.01 lakh, as per the report. (KNS)
