Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was placed under house arrest early Friday morning at his residence and stopped from offering Friday prayers condemned the massive deployment of government forces in and around Jamia Masjid, Srinagar and barring people from offering congregational prayers at the historic Masjid.
In a statement issued here, condemning the decision of the ruling class of converting the entire area around Jamia Masjid into a garrison of armed forces, the Hurriyat (M) Chairman said that it seems the ruling regime has decided not to make any change in its policy of imposing curbs and repression on people’s basic rights and liberties and keep them subjected to occupation for maintaining the facade of normalcy.But the reality is that these tactics on the contrary deteriorate the situation further and take it farther from maintaining so called peace.
Commenting on a report published in a local newspaper that Jammu Kashmir government had allotted 4,80,000 kanal land at Mandalthang, Shayok in Ladakh to the Army, the Mirwaiz Said consolidating military occupation in the disputed territory by grabbing more land for military upkeep and infrastructure and to increase military presence in Kashmir, indicates increased militarization as a solution to dealing with the conflict which is reflective of an occupational mindset and looks at resolution through military solution to a political dispute. Mirwaiz said this attitude is very unfortunate and doesnt auger well for the region.
Meanwhile, a Hurriyat spokesman condemned the house arrest of the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq and imposing a ban and on his religious and political activities, detention of senior Hurriyat leader, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza at Police Station Sher Bagh in south Kashmirs Islamabad district, and placing Hurriyat leader Engineer Hilal Ahmad War under house arrest and said these decisions were being taken to silence every voice demanding the just rights of people of Kashmir and their people fighting for the right to self determination of Kashmiris.
Meanwhile, on the directions of the APHC Chairman, a high-level Hurriyat delegation comprising Ghulam Nabi Zaki and Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi visited the SMHS hospital and inquired about the conditions of the people injured in the firing by Indian forces at Padgampora, Awantipore.
