Srinagar: Doctors at District Hospital Anantnag have successfully performed a first ever two level stichless lumbar fusion surgical procedure, a statement of the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir said on Friday.
“The surgery was performed by the Orthopaedic unit of the Hospital. A 55 year old female had come to the hospital with chronic lower back ache with pain in both lower limbs from last two years. She was having weakness of both feet with difficulty in walking. Her X rays and MRI showed block in her spinal cord at two level which was cause of her symptoms,” DHSK official said.
The Orthopaedic Unit operated the patient and released her spinal cord and fused her spine bones to relieve her from back pain as well as from leg pain. Since the surgery was under magnifying loup, the operative team used very small cut over her back and closed back the wound by giving stitches all inside. It has two advantages one there will very small surgical mark and patient will have very minimal post-operative pain. There will be no need of stich removal after surgery. The patient is recovering well in the hospital and expected to go home within couple of days.
The operative team under the logistic support from MS DH Baramulla Dr Majid Mirab included Dr Younis Kamal,Dr Gulzar Kuchey (Orthopaedic Surgeons), Dr Mohamad Shafi (Anesthetist),Mohammad Lateef,Farooq Ahmad,Aadil Ahmad(OT Staff) .
Massive Heart Attack Patient Saved By ER Unit Of District Hospital Baramulla
In the Emergency Room(ER) unit of District Hospital Baramulla a patient who suffered a massive heart attack was resuscitated successfully. A 55 year old male patient came with chest pain to the hospital on 8th March while he was sent for EKG.
The patient in EKG suffered a massive heart attack followed with ventricular tachycardia and collapsed in EKG room. The resuscitation was started from EKG room only, CPR was done till patient was shifted to Emergency Room(ER).
Patient was subsequently put on monitor which showed VT and patient was gasping. CPR was done continuously and due to poor respiratory effort patient was intubated till then cardio version was done and VT was reverted and hemodynamics became stable. Patient was loaded with anti-ischemic treatment and simultaneously patient was Thrombolysed and shifted to SKIMS where patient is doing well.
The team under the logistic support from MS DH Baramulla Dr Syed Masood included Dr Ahad Wani, Dr Mir Waseem (Physicians),Dr Ihsan ul Haq (Anaesthetist) and other ER Staff.
Director Health Services, Kasmir Dr Saleem ur Rehman while appreciating the Hospital Administration and the team of doctors and paramedics of both the hospitals in achieving this feat said that it is the focus of the department to have in place emergency rooms in all district and sub district hospitals and the department is working hard in terms of equipments and trained workforce for these Emergency Rooms.
In this context the Directorate till now has trained more than 5000 health personnel for Basic Life Support and over 800 doctors and paramedics for emergency Room Trauma Course and Advanced Cardiac Life Support respectively.
