JAMMU: The Legal Metrology Department on Thursday imposed a fine worth Rs 325000 on a private company for violation of certain rules and regulations of the department.
Deputy Controller LMD, Manoj Prabhakar, said that following complaints that the company is importing and supplying toys at exaggerated rates without adherence to mandatory declarations of Legal Metrology Packaged Commodity Rules, 2011, a team of officers, comprising Inspectors Pooja Kumari and Rohit Gupta headed by Assistant Controller Kewal Krishan, inspected Big Bazar Jammu and other prominent malls.
During the inspection, it was found that the company is selling imported toys by concealing mandatory declarations in violation of Packaged commodity rules. The team on the spot booked and issued seizure memo to the company through the management of Big Bazar Jammu. The Mumbai based M/s Piramal Enterprises Limited today confessed the guilt and pleaded for composition of the case at department level and deposited a sum of Rs.325000 as composition money. The management of the enterprise further assured the department that such offence shall not be repeated henceforth and the company will fully comply with the rules and regulations of the Department.
In another case, the department imposed a fine of Rs.25000 on a national level company for launching deceptive packs in the market.
