JAMMU: Agitating students of Class 12th who were protesting against the out of syllabus Physics paper on Saturday clashed with Police in which 3 students and 3 cops including a Dy SP and a SHO were injured.
The clash took place after police resorted to lathi-charge and even lobbed teargas shells to disperse the agitating students who had blocked the Jammu-Srinagar Highway near Rehari Chungi. The agitating students did not relent and instead, started stone-pelting in the cops. The ding-dong battle continued for an hour in which 3 students and 3 cops were injured. Though the identity of the students could not be ascertained but the injured cops have been identified as Dy SP (North), Vivek Shekhar; SHO Pucca Danga, Ajay Bhat, and PSO of SHO Nowabad.
Besides, some students were also taken into preventive custody by the police who were later released after counselling. It all began in the morning when the students of Class 12th began protesting against Out of Syllabus physics paper of the 12th class board examination outside the Rehari office of the State Board of School Education (SBSE). The students of class 12th were demanding that the paper is cancelled since most parts of the Physics paper was out of the syllabus or they are awarded grace marks for the same.
According to the eyewitnesses, students from different parts of Jammu had gathered outside the Rehari office of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE). They raised slogans against the authorities of the BOSE, accusing them of playing with the future of the students. After raising slogans outside the board office, the students marched towards Rehari Chungi and sat on Dharna. The Dharna led to blocking of the vehicular traffic in the main Rehari Chowk.
As the protests intensified, police first requested the agitating students to lift Dharna and when the students refused, police resorted to lathi-charge. The lathi-charge led to students resorting to stone-pelting.
Meanwhile, authorities of State Board of School Education have decided that a committee would be constituted to find out the facts into the allegations levelled by the students. A decision in this regard was taken after Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Arun Manhas intervened.
