Srinagar: The residents of Wanhama area of Central Kashmirs Ganderbal district on Monday staged protest against the government for targeting the residential areas to construct the road in the district.
The residents of the several areas including Wanhama, Raipora, Lar, Karoosa and others assembled at Srinagars Press Enclave and chanted slogans like we want justice. They were demanding immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.
Talking to KNS, Muhammad Shafi, one among the protesting residents said that the government is currently conducting a survey in the area to construct a road in the area, which is bound to affect the residential areas from Wanhama to Lar.
Despite the availability of the green land in the area, the government is targeting the residential areas. Why is the government forcing us to become homeless? We appeal the government to save our residential houses, he said.
He said that the government must conduct a survey on their own before constructing a road to see that the green land is also available in the district. We must not be forced to take streets again, he said.
Shafi said that the government has constructed 80 ft long road in the district in the year 1994 but unfortunately the road has not been fully macadamized so far. We appeal to the government to macadamize the 80 ft long properly so the inconvenience faced by the commuters would come to an end, he said.
The protesting residents later appealed government to look into their demands and fulfill them as soon as possible.
However, the protesting residents later dispersed peacefully. (KNS)
