Srinagar: As the 2016 uprising resulted in the stoppage of all the government works in the Valley, the state government has suffered a loss of Rs 54 Crore due to the halting of Rs 369 Crore Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover project works.
The JCRB flyover project will be completed by end of this year, sources said.
Reliable sources informed Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the stoppage of the construction work of the flyover during the uprising (2016) has resulted in a huge loss of Rs 54 crore to the government.
Notably, the project is being executed by Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (JKERA) with Simplex Infra Limited as project contractor.
Sources said that the flyover construction work that has got stopped due to the last years (2016) uprising has resulted in the huge loss of Rs 54 crore to the state government without being executing the works. The work got stopped during the strikes but the agreement signed between the contractor and the government has to be followed. The government has to pay hefty amount to the contractor as he has invested the money already but failed to execute the works due to the shutdowns, sources said.
They however said that the authorities are trying hard to start the halted works again so that the unfinished works could get completed soon.
Minister for Public works, Naeem Akhtar told KNS, The completion of the flyover depends upon the circumstances. If peace prevails in the Valley, the flyover would likely to get completed by the end of this year, he said. (KNS)
