SRINAGAR: Terming forces action in Moolu Chitragam in Shopian district as sheer vengeance, Hurriyat Patriarch, Syed Ali Geelani, on Friday said that the barbaric act is unjustified and immoral.
Calling forces action as ruthless, Geelani expressed resentment over the killing of elderly woman, thrashing people and ransacking properties by forces and said, it is absolute state terrorism.
After routine combat and encounters between armed youth, forces in retaliation target civilians and ransack properties. It is unjustified and such retributions tantamount to war crimes, said Geelani who is undergoing house detention since 2010.
Meanwhile, a Hurriyat Conference (G) spokesperson said, on the directions of Geelani, a deputation comprised of Haji Gh Nabi Sumji and Mohammad Amin Ahangar visited Moolu Chitragam and addressed a public gathering.
Expressing condolences with the bereaved family, Sumji said, it is a willful murder and state forces deliberately killed her. We are striving for a rightful cause and we have presented immense sacrifices for sacred mission.
We need to remain cautious. We must safeguard these cherished sacrifices, he told people during his Friday sermon.
While referring to pro-India political parties including NC, PDP, Sumji warned people for their deceit and said, these unscrupulous politicians are big hurdle and unless we maintain a distance from these elements, it is very tough to achieve our goal.
While referring to peoples uprising in 2016, he said, people of J&K conveyed a message to world about their just demand for freedom from Indian occupation, however, Indian policy makers didnt heed to these screams and turned their blind eye. This is the main reason that situation has turned from bad to worse and there seems no end to human losses.
Mirwaiz Condemns
Terming the killings and oppression in Jammu Kashmir for the past 30 years in general and more than six months in particular, and the arrest spree of youth across north to south Kashmir, and their detentions in far-flung jails as worst form of state terrorism and political vendetta exhibited by the ruling regime, Hurriyat Conference (M) chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Friday said that hundreds of innocent youths have been detained in frivolous cases and are languishing in jails and police stations all around the valley.
Addressing a massive Friday congregation at Srinagars historic Jamia Masjid, he said, among these political prisoners, a large number were elderly and ailing persons while many were juveniles and by detaining them in jails far away from their home, these prisoners were going through both physical as well as mental torture.
Calling for putting an end to this politics of vendetta, Mirwaiz demanded immediate release of all political prisoners.
The way government forces targeted and battered people in Shopian a few days back, broke the window panes, and rouged up residents after forcing their way into their homes and fired pellets and bullets on the people is condemnable and unacceptable, he said.
Referring to the guest control decision of the government, Mirwaiz said, it is sad that we need external controls rather than exercising self-control and restraint on our desire for extravaganza and splurge, especially when our deen (Islam) and its teachings which are the guiding principle of our life clearly define how we should live, simply and keeping the underprivileged in mind.
In the context of our political struggle and the pain and suffering we are witnessing and the immense sacrifices that we as a nation are offering, we should bring about fundamental changes in our attitudes and outlook rather than external enforcement, he added.
