SRINAGAR: Having stated on day of his resignation that continuing with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would be equally subscribing to their administratively inhuman and politically unethical blunders, former Parliamentarian, Tariq Hameed Karra, on Saturday was baptized in to Indian National Congress (INC).
Karra, who led a campaign against PDP joining hands with right wing Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) after 2014 J&K Legislative Assembly elections resigned from the party on September 15, 2016. He was the founder member of 18-year-old pro-India party which is ruling state third time since it was born.
I have relentlessly toiled for building PDPs house, brick by brick from the very first day of its formation, he told dozens of media personnel at his Shivpora residence thus ending his advocacy of Self Rule the political document which PDP rode ever since its existence in 1999.
Karra, heir of Batamaloos business family and son of former National Conference minister, Gh Mohi-ud-Din Karra, was baptized in Congress by its vice-president, Rahul Ghandhi, in New Delhi where the party president, Sonia Ghandhi, was also present.
It may be noted that PDPs first stint in government was in alliance with Congress from 2003-08 during which Karra was J&Ks finance minister.
PDP till March 2015 had played its role as a Political buffer and a saviour of all kinds of rights of the people. But today in the present tragic circumstances when the people of my homeland are being subjugated to the highest degree of brutalities by a party which was floated to safeguard the life, property, honour, dignity, self respect and their political aspirations, made a turn around and treated its subjects much worst than the Natzi forces, Karra, donning black Kamiz-Shalwar, had stated in his resignation letter during the peak of anti-establishment public uprising in 2016 which he read before the jam packed scribes.
The seeds of deceit, discontent and betrayal got sown in the hearts and minds of the people that very day when PDP got into alliance with BJP and formed the government thus becoming facilitators for the fascist design of RSS towards fulfilment of their long cherished dream of Hinduisation of the Muslim Majority State by stabbing its own Values and aspirations of the Kashmiri people, he had added.
Reports said that Karra joined Congress this morning in presence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
Both the leaders welcomed him in the party fold, sources said.
Karra who was among the founding members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had resigned from the party as well as from his Lok Sabha seat. He had announced his resignation on September 15 last year (2016) citing naked brutalities on people.
On the occasion of his joining new party, Karra charged PM Modi of politicizing the statement by the Army Chief.
”It is unfortunate that an institution like the Army is also being politicized. This shows that PM Modi does not want even the Army to be independent,” he told media persons at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi.
Criticizing PM Modi, he said, ”I would say that he is not a PM candidate. Giving all the dignity to the post of the Prime Minister, I would say that a small man is sitting in a big chair”.
The former PDP leader also sought to backtrack from his statement later saying, I am saying that it is an unfortunate thing if army is brought into politically motivated things.
Pertinently, Karra defeated National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Srinagar constituency.
Reports said that the workers of Karra including Nisar Ahmad Mandoo, the close aid of Karra, will be joining the party in Srinagar in the next upcoming days. However, it remains to be seen whether party high command gives the charge of state unit to Karra or he would have to play second to incumbent State Congress head, G A Mir, who lost last assembly elections to a PDP candidate.
