Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairperson, Syed Ali Geelani, who continues to be under house detention, was once again not allowed to offer mandatory congregational Friday prayers by J&K government today.
Condemning the autocratic and egoistic behaviour of rulers and its authorities, the Hurriyat Conference spokesperson, in a statement said, that Hurriyat patriarch is not being allowed to offer Friday prayers for the last so many years.
It was in Omar Abdullahs regime that curbs and restrictions were imposed and pro-freedom leader was barred from offering prayers. This practice was followed by then Chief Minister, late Mufti Sayeed, the spokesperson said, and now, Mehbooba Mufti too is following the same policy.
Meanwhile, the Hurriyat Conference while strongly condemning state authorities said, the coalition led by PDP and BJP has turned state virtually in a big jail and more than six hundred pro-freedom leaders and activists are still languishing in different jails.
Commenting over the continuous detention of resistance leaders and activists including Sheikh Mohammad Yousaf, Ab Subhan Wani, Mohammad Rustum Bhat, Amir Hamza Shah, Ab Khaliq Regu, Ab Rehman Tantray, Bashir Ahmad Sofi, Sheikh Mohammad Ramzan, Mohammad Shaban Dar, Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Mohammad Yusuf Lone, Ab Majid Rather, Hakim-u-Rehman Sultani, Nazir Ahmad War, Mohammad Ashraf War, Abdul Manan, Lateef Ahmad Kalo, Gh Mohi ud din Pundit, Sajad Ahmad War, Nazir Ahmad Tantray ,Mohammad Abdullah Bhat, Ab Salam Mir, Mohammad Ramzan Bhat , Farooq Ahmad Sofi, Gh Nabi Najar and Sajad Ahmad Mir, Hurriyat Conference said, most of those detained are elderly.
The Hurriyat Conference while furnishing details about prisoners said, more than hundred were bailed out by court, however, police didnt release them and are lodged in police lockups. PSA was slapped again on forty detainees and those detainees who served and completed detention period are illegally detained without assigning any reason.
Most of the detainees after furnishing bail documents were not released, instead booked against fresh and baseless allegations and FIR stand registered against them, thereby prolonging their detention, said the spokesperson.
Hurriyat Conference (G) in its appeal to organisation for human rights asked them to take cognizance of pitiable plight of detainees and use their influence for their release.
