SRINAGAR: The Divisional Administration, Kashmir on Friday issued an avalanche warning for next 24 hours for hilly and avalanche prone areas of Kashmir valley and Kargil district.
According to a statement of Divisional Administration, high danger avalanche warning valid for next 24 hours from February 17 to February 18, 2017 (1700 hrs) exists for avalanche prone slopes in Bandipora district.
While as medium danger avalanche warning exists for avalanche prone slopes of Baramulla, Kupwara, Ganderbal and Kargil districts of Kashmir Division, the statement added.
Accordingly, all concerned Deputy Commissioners have been asked to take precautionary measures in their respective districts and advise people not to venture in avalanche prone areas during the aforementioned period and monitor the situation regularly to avert any untoward incident.
Traffic To Ply From Jammu Towards Srinagar
Keeping in view the condition of the road, especially between Udhampur -Ramsoo and Banihal to Levdora (Qazigund) coupled with narrow width of road at certain places, only one-way movement of traffic is feasible/advisable on Srinagar- Jammu highway.
As such subject to fair weather and good condition of the road on Saturday, on 18:02:2017, movement of traffic shall be allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar/Doda region in a regulated manner.
Movement of LMVs/passenger vehicles/Tankers shall be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) from 0600 hours up to 1200 hours and from Udhampur up to 1400 hours only.
However, the movement of HMVs (excluding Trailers/multi-axle vehicles) including convoys of Army, BSF, CRPF etc shall be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) from 0630 hours up to 1100 hours and from Udhampur up to 1400 hours only.
No movement of vehicles shall be allowed from the above TCPs after the prescribed cut off timing under any circumstances.
No movement of traffic including that of convoys of Army, BSF, CRPF etc shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu side on 18:02:2017 under any circumstances to ensure hassle free movement of traffic.
Commuters are requested/advised that vehicles are not parked in any landslide/avalanche/vulnerable zones of NHW especially from Ramsoo – Jawahar Tunnel – Levdora under any circumstances.
All the vulnerable/avalanche prone zones should be kept free from any kind of traffic to avoid any eventuality.
People are requested not to undertake journey on Srinagar-Jammu Highway in case of bad weather.
They should contact TCU Srinagar (01942450022, 2485396), TCU Ramban (9419993745) and TCU Jammu (01912459048, 9419147732) and officers of Traffic wing to get the status of the road before starting their journey. (KNS)
Kashmir Temperatures Improve
Despite prediction of wet weather and icy cold winds blowing in Kashmir, the night temperature further improved and settled several degrees above normal.
A Met department spokesperson said that rain and snow would occur at few places in the state during the next 24 hours, followed by moderate to heavy snowfall at most places during the subsequent 48 hours.
Even though there was further improvement in night temperature at the border town of Kargil, it was still the coldest place in the region at minus 4.8 degree C, against minus 7.5 degree C recorded yesterday.
