Srinagar: Landlords from North Kashmir whose land was taken by the state government for the road reconstruction projects protested here in Srinagar over the non-payment of their compensation.
Scores of land owners from North Kashmirs Pattan town assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar displaying placards with various inscriptions calling on Government to pay them the compensation without further delay.
The irate protesters said that government took their land and demolished their buildings in 1977 for the Sriwarpora Chakoora Pattan road project. Thirty years after the court decided the case in our favour and directed the government to compensate us. However, even after the court directions, government has failed to compensate us, the protesters said.
They said that the then government occupied their land measuring 34 kanals 15 marlas and since then they have been awaiting for the compensation. It is injustice towards us. Even after the Court directions, nothing is being done to compensate us, the protesters said and appealed the present government to look into the matter and give respite to the poor farmers. (CNS)
