Srinagar: Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, received fresh light to moderate snow and rain since last night, resulting in considerable dip in the maximum temperature.
However, the night temperature remained above normal at majority of the places in Kashmir valley, where moderate to heavy snowfall is predicted at most places in the state during the next 24 hours.
Even though there was some improvement in the night temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where the ski slopes area already under several feet of snow, was the coldest place in the region at minus 3.4 degree.
Gulmarg, which attracts skiers, tourists and adventure lovers from all over the globe because of its ski slopes during winter season, received 11 inches of fresh snow and 28 mm of rain during the last 24 hours. Against minus 4.4 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Gulmarg was minus 3.4 degree, which is about three notches above normal.
The night temperature at Leh in Ladakh region further improvement and settled at minus 3.3 degree, against minus 4.6 degree recorded yesterday.
He said light snow would occur during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around minus 1 degree and minus 9 degree respectively during the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Srinagar has turned white again due to fresh snowfall since late last night after heavy rain and thunders, disrupting power supply in majority areas in the city, where most of the roads has been waterlogged.
Roof, tree tops and roads had turned white in Srinagar and its adjoining areas, resulting in further chill. Everything was under a blanket of white powder. However, during the month of January, Srinagar recorded highest snowfall in the last three decades, after about six months of long dry spell. Against 1 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature was minus 0.7 degree, which is about 1 notch below normal.

World famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, received about 48.1 mm of fresh mixed rain and snow since last night, resulting in dip in the day temperature. However, the night temperature in Pahalgam further improved and settled at 0.2 degree, against minus 1.4 degree recorded yesterday. The night temperature at the heath resort was about six degree above normal.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to Kashmir Valley, on the 300-km-long National Highway, which was again closed due to about 82.8 mm of mixed rain and snow since last night, remained constant at 0.2 degree, which is about two notches above normal.

Barring 2, all flights operated from Srinagar airport
Barring two, all flights were able to operate from Srinagar International Airport in Kashmir valley, despite fresh snow since last night.
An Airport official told UNI that two morning flights were cancelled due to poor visibility and snow.
However, he said as the day progressed, the visibility improved and the snow was cleared from the runway, adding the remaining 12 flights were able to operation from the airport normally.
