Srinagar: As many as 390 illegal buildings have been demolished in around world famous Dal Lake while 541 violators were booked by Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) in 2016.
An official spokesperson here today said that during last year, 228 demolition drives were lunched against the illegal constructions and FIRs filed against the violators in the city by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
He said that 390 illegal buildings have been demolished and 541 violators were booked by the LAWDA.
Meanwhile, he said that the third cell at Achan Dumping site will be completed in March and will cater to needs of garbage disposal for next 2-3 years.
The detailed zonal planning shall start from next month in Srinagar, Anantnag, Jammu and Katra and will be completed within a financial year, he said.
Srinagar Master Plan (SMP) will be put in public domain soon to seek public response, he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh has directed the authorities to take appropriate measures against the encroachments and illegal construction and ensure that there is no encroachment in the city.
He also directed the officials to make small interventions too like installing aesthetically pleasing dustbins, beautiful bus stops, installing street lights etc so that Srinagar becomes epitome of facilities for locals and tourists. He also directed the officers to resolve all issues of street vendors within a period of month.
