JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded highest electoral enrolment during special summary revision of electoral rolls 2017. About 195717 new voters have been enrolled during the special summary revision which includes 87040 males and 108677 females.
This was informed by Mr. Shantmanu, Chief Electoral Officer J&K while chairing a high level meeting attended by Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Director Information and Public Relations J&K, Dr. Raman Kumar Kesar, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Krishan Lal , Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and others.
Mr. Shantmanu informed that the enrolment of female electors is on higher side as compared to male electors and the gender ratio of the State has also improved to 909 compared to census gender ratio of 889. It is almost close to the national roll gender ratio 915 and the percentage of photographs in the Photo Electoral Roll (PER) has also increased from 95% to 95.83%. He also said that there has been net increase of 1.32% of voters above the Draft Roll-2017 which is much higher as compared to 0.83% increase during Summary Revision-2016. He further stated that during the process of electoral roll purification which includes deletion of duplicates, modification, transposition etc, a total of 98328 entries were deleted including 59616 females and 38712 males.
While appreciating the commendable job done by the election machinery of the State involved in Special Summary Revision -2017, Mr Shantmanu said it is due to their tireless efforts that total number of electors has reached 75,11,811 which include 74,53339 general voters and 58472 service voters. Mr. Shantmanu also welcomed newly enrolled electors and thanked all who participated in registrations, correction & transposition in the electoral rolls despite prevailing unrest in the Kashmir Valley and cross-border firing in the border districts of the State during the period of enrolment. Stressing the need to focus on enrollment of new voters especially youth, Mr Shantmanu said that the online process of enrolment has been streamlined and simplified so that about 11 lakh voters falling in the age group of 18-30 years also get enrolled.
It is pertinent to mention here that in Jammu division Ramban district recorded highest additions of 4.90% and in Kashmir Division Kargil recorded 3.087% increase over draft electors. Similarly Kishtwar district in Jammu Division and Kargil District in Kashmir Division recorded highest number of deletions of 2.32% and 2.12% over draft electors respectively.
The Special Summary Revision of Electoral Roll in J&K began with the draft publication of photo electoral roll of Jammu division including Leh & Kargil District on 30.09.2016 and for Kashmir division on 31.10.2016 and 1.01.2017 as a qualifying date.
