Srinagar: Business and other activities continued to remain affected and very less number of vehicles were plying on roads for the second successive day today in support of the separatists’ two-day strike call from yesterday in Kashmir, which reeled under unrest since July 9.
Police said there was no curfew or restrictions in any part of the Valley though security forces remained deployed in strength to maintain law and order.
However, the markets continued to remain closed while very less number of private and public vehicles, besides three-wheelers, could be seen plying on some routes in the summer capital and in the city outskirts. But, the number of vehicles plying on roads in Srinagar was slightly higher than yesterday.
All shops were closed in the main business hubs in Civil Lines, including Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city though some private and public vehicles could be seen plying on various routes.
Situation was no different in uptown and downtown Srinagar, where shop and business establishments remained closed for the second day today and less number of public and private vehicles were plying on roads.
Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the agitation since July 9, have reduced the duration of strike to only Fridays and Saturdays in a week for the past about one month. Earlier, there was relaxation in strike for only weekends in a week.
A report from Baramulla said business and other activities remained crippled for the second day today in support of separatist strike call in this and other major towns and tehsil headquarters.
However, despite bone chilling weather, security forces and state police personnel remained deployed at sensitive place in entire north Kashmir to maintain law and order.
Security forces remained deployed in Anantnag and other major towns and tehsil headquarters, where normal life remained paralyzed as shop and business establishment remained crippled and only few vehicles were plying on roads in support of separatists strike call.
Similar reports were also received from Budgam and Ganderbal districts, where life remained paralyzed for second day due to strike.
