Srinagar: More than 83 per cent students were declared successful in the 10th class examination after the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of Education (BOSE) declared results in a record one month.
However, the JKBOSE this time has introduced grade system, instead of the usual marks system in the papers. There will be no positions in this system. The pass percentage of the students has shown a considerable increase of seven per cent compared to last year.
JKBOSE chairman Zahoor Ahmad Chatt said out of over 58,000 aspirants, including 30070 boys and 28223 girls, who appeared for the examination, 83 per cent students passed.
He said the pass percentage of boys was higher this time than girls. 84.61 per cent boys and 81.45 per cent girls passed in class 10th examination, he added.
The class 10 and class 12 examinations were conducted in November last year after being postponed due to the unrest triggered by the killing of top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an encounter on July 8.
Out of successful candidates, 3413 students secured A1 grades (91 to 100 per cent), 7898 secured A2 grade (81-90 per cent) and 9353 secured B1 grade (71-80 per cent), he said.
Meanwhile, he said 10,028 secured B2 grade, 7,968 secured C1 grade while 3,235 secured C2 grade, adding 312 students passed in D grade.
He added that south Kashmirs Pulwama district witnessed highest percentage of students who appeared in exams.
As per the figures, 4613 out of 4656 students appeared in 48 exam centres set up in the district. The percentage of students appearing in exams was 99.07 percent. As many as 43 students remained absent.
He said that Pulwama district was followed by Srinagar district wherein 98.87 percent students appeared in the examination.
Around 8488 out of 8585 students appeared in the district while as 97 remained absent.
Government has set up 78 exam centres for the students in the district.
In north Kashmirs Kupwara district 98.78 percent of students appeared in the exams, 98.73 percent appeared in Ganderbal district, he added.
Following the unrest in the Valley, the government announced choice for class 10 and class 12 students to appear in examinations, as per their interest, in November 2016 or March 2017.
However, BOSE had made it clear that students who are interested to appear in full syllabus will be given an opportunity to appear in exams of both classes in March 2017.
The unrest, which claimed the lives of about 91 civilians and left thousands of other injured, forced all educations institutes to remain shut for about five months following which government announced mass promotion of the students from classes one to nine and class 11.
