Srinagar: With the improvement in situation, paramilitary forces have started withdrawing additional deployments, beginning from frontier north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Official sources said that many battalions of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) including 148- A company and 215-C company were withdrawn today from Lolab while 63 A bn and 91 bn from Kupwara.
PRO, CRPF Rajesh Yadav said that the withdrawal process of the deployments were started earlier but it got hampered due to heavy snowfall last week.
“All the additional deployments will be withdrawn in the Kashmir Valley in phased manner with the improvement in situation”, PRO said.
Meanwhile, a top government officer said that during unrest a total of 103 companies of CRPF were deployed in the Valley.
He also confirmed that among 103 companies, 15 have been withdrawn and 40 companies will start withdrawing in coming days.
The unrest started post the killing of Burhan Wani, Hizbul Mujahideen commander, on July 8 last year.
Nearly hundred people were killed and hundreds injured during the unrest.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti informed the legislative assembly last week that 1059 persons were arrested, 318 under Public Safety Act.
Mehbooba also said that 2684 FIRs have been registered during the uprising upto December 31 last year. The cases are presently under investigation. (GNS)
