Srinagar: The year 2016 witnessed 5836 road accidents across Jammu and Kashmir claiming 917 precious lives while 8142 people suffered disability in these accidents, RTO Kashmir Farooq Ahmed said on Wednesday while addressing an audience during a function organized by different Engineers Associations in wake of Road Safety Week here in Srinagar.
Farooq Ahmed blamed vendors for major road accidents and said that road side vendors are the root cause for the traffic mess across Jammu and Kashmir. He said that besides vendors, defective roads, too, pave way for the road accidents so it is the responsibility of the Engineers to prepare motorable roads.
Besides, RTO Kashmir, ARTO Srinagar Mubashir Jan, Incharge Chief Engineer PHE Malik Lateef, Executive Engineer Waterworks Aijaz Qureshi and Assiatn Executive Engineer Muhammad Yousuf Andrabi spoke on the occasion. The function was organized by Junior Engineering Mechanical, PHE Associations.
