Bandipora: During a cordon and search operation, a militant was killed while another managed to escape from Hajin area of Sonawari tehsil of North Kashmirs Bandipora district, police sources claimed on Tuesday.
Sources said that after receiving inputs about the presence of a group of militants in Parrey Mohalla village of Hajin town, Army contingent from 13 Rashtriya Rifles along with Special Operation Group of Jammu Kashmir Police cordoned off the area and during the search operation, militants fired upon the searching party resulting in the injuries of an Army man identified as Naik Pramood Kumar who was quickly evacuated and shifted to hospital for treatment.
Sources added that during the exchange of fire, a militant was killed and ammunition was recovered from his possession. Reports said that another militant fled from spot.
According to the eyewitnesses, the militants death sparked protest while a large number of people hit to roads and chanted pro-freedom slogans.
A police official identified the slain militant as Abu Surag from Pakistan and said that after doing postmortem of his body at Mansbal Army Camp, his body was handed over to local Auqaf Committee Uri where he was laid to rest. (CNS)
