Srinagar: Business and other activities remained affected for the second-day today due to strike, called by separatist in the Kashmir Valley, where unrest continued since July 9.
Shops and business establishments remained closed in the summer capital, Srinagar, and outskirts, where majority roads remained under snow as authorities had cleared snow on only few main roads. Hardly any passenger vehicle was seen plying on the roads due to strike coupled with slippery road conditions. However, some private vehicles were seen struggling to driver due to snow and slippery conditions, particularly in the uptown town and down town.
However, despite sever chilly conditions and other odds, security forces and state police personnel, were seen guarding the streets though business activities remained paralysed for the second day today in historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital, and other business hubs in the civil lines.
Work in government offices and banks was affected as some employees could not make it to their offices due to non availability of transport. Hundreds of vehicles, mostly passenger buses, remained stranded at General bus stand at Batmaloo. Educational institutions remained closed due to winter vacation. However, tuition and coaching centres also remained closed for the second day today.
Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the agitation since July 9, have now reduced the duration of strike to only Friday and Saturday in a week for the past about one month. Earlier, there was relaxation in strike for only weekends in a week.
A report from Baramulla said business and other activities remained paralysed in this and other major towns and tehsil headquarters in north Kashmir. Transport was off the roads and shops remained closed for the second day today. However, security forces and state police personnel remained deployed to maintain law and order.

Similar reports were also received from central Kashmir districts of Budgam and Ganderbal, where life remained affected due to strike.
