JAMMU – The Chairman of Environment Committee (EC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Mr. M. Y. Tarigami today asked Housing and urban Development (H&UD) Department to take measures to further improve the civic amenities in capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar.
Chairing a meeting of the Committee convened to review the functioning of H & UD department, Mr. Tarigami sought details about the status of laying of sewerage line works in the twin cities, while calling for speedy restoration of dug up lanes and roads. He asked the civic bodies to ensure cleanliness in the two cities by deploying adequate number of safaikaramcharies in each locality of the two cities.
The Committee also sought details about the measures taken by the Municipal Corporations for scientific disposal of solid waste generated in the cities. The panel also sought the details of the air and noise pollution in Jammu and Srinagar.
Legislators, Mr. Mohammad Sharief Niaz, Mr. Yashpal Kundal, Mr. Lal Chand, Prof. Gharu Ram, Mr. Charanjit Singh and Ch. Sham Lal also gave their valuable suggestions for the improvement of civic facilities in the twin capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu.
Principal Secretary, H&UD Mr. Suresh Kumar, briefed the committee about the measures taken by the department to improve the sanitation and other civic amenities in the cities of Jammu and Srinagar.
Among others Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Mr. K. L. Khajuria, Chairman, Pollution Control Board Mr. Lal Chand, Joint Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation and officers of Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
