Soz Demands Raise in LPG Cap to 12 Cylinders

SRINAGAR – Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Prof.Saifuddin Soz today called upon Union Petroleum Minister, Veerapa Moily in Delhi and demanded raising of the LPG cap to 12 cylinders per year for consumers in the state.

I took a day off from the Panchayat Campaign currently going on in Jammu and Kashmir and reached Delhi to make out a strong case with the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dr. Veerappa Moilly, whom I met today with a strong case for provisions of 12 Gas Cylinders for the People of Jammu and Kashmir State, Prof Soz said in a statement issued here.

I explained to the Minister that I had already argued with his predecessor Shri. Jaipal Reddy and later with Honble Prime Minister that J&K State deserves special consideration in view of the fact that this state experiences cold weather for many months in a year as therefore, larger supply of Gas is needed in the state and other equally important factor is that during the last decade the Forest cover in the State has increased due to the fact that people living near forests too had adopted cooking Gas facility and do not consume fire wood as a daily requirement., he added.

Moily told Soz that the problem of supplying cooking gas in the country is very acute due to shortage in supply, however, he assured Soz that he (Moily) would consider the requirement of J&K State.

He told me further that while it may not be possible to supply 12 Gas Cylinders at the moment, he would consider to provide 9 Gas Cylinders and leave the question of enhanced supply for further consideration, Soz said.

Later, the Congress President met Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde. Among other things I sought his support for provision of larger volume of cooking gas to the people of J&K State. He assured me that he would also speak to V. Moilly in this connection Soz said.
